The enquiry from f.u.n.k.e. AVIONICS brought Reinheimer Elektronik GmbH into closer contact with the wind power industry for the first time. As part of the customer application, a special frequency range was required that is used in the aerospace sector. As a result, an existing antenna radiator was modified to fulfil the required frequency range.
The lens-shaped REEL combination antenna is used as part of a measuring and switching system to monitor the airspace on wind turbines and to switch on the obstruction lighting of the wind turbines when low-flying aircraft are approaching to avoid possible collisions.
The REEL antenna receives certain position signals from a special aircraft system in the 868 MHz range, which regularly transmit their positions. In addition, it is used to record satellite navigation signals and to transmit a test signal, which is used to permanently monitor the proper functioning of the system.
